About Umang Yoga & Sound Healing Centre In Rishikesh

A small sound healing and yoga school by the Ganga, built on one simple word: umang – the joy that rises when the mind finally becomes still.

In Short

Who Is Umang Yoga & Sound Healing Centre?

Umang Yoga & Sound Healing Centre is a sound healing and yoga school on Virbhadra Marg in Rishikesh, India, founded by Gaurav Mishra. Its name comes from the Hindi word “umang”, meaning joy and enthusiasm. Umang offers 1, 3, 5 and 7-day Sound Healing Teacher Training and eight yoga and sound healing retreats, taught personally in small batches.

One Word, One Feeling

What Does “Umang” Mean?

उमंग Umang noun · Hindi · pronounced “oo-mung”
  1. Joy – a bright, natural happiness.
  2. Enthusiasm – fresh energy and zest for life.
  3. An inner uplift – the feeling of something rising and opening inside you.

We did not name our school after a technique. We named it after a feeling.

In Hindi, umang describes the joy and enthusiasm that rise from within – the lightness you feel when something heavy finally lets go. It is not excitement from the outside, but a quiet, natural uplift of the spirit.

Again and again, that is how students describe the moment after a deep sound bath: calmer, lighter and strangely full of energy at the same time. Tibetan singing bowls and yogic practice clear the noise, and what is left underneath is umang.

So the name is also our promise. Every course, retreat and session at Umang Yoga & Sound Healing Centre is designed to help you rediscover that inner joy – and to give you the tools to return to it on your own.

Our Story

A Small Sanctuary for Authentic Sound Healing

Rishikesh is full of schools. Many of them are large, busy and fast. Umang Yoga & Sound Healing Centre was created to be the opposite – a quiet, personal space where ancient sound healing is taught slowly, carefully and with respect for where it comes from.

Founder Gaurav Mishra spent over a decade immersed in Himalayan ashrams, studying Tibetan singing bowl therapy and traditional yogic sadhana under traditional masters. Umang is where he shares that training – on Virbhadra Marg, close to the sacred Ganga and away from the noisy bazaar crowds.

Today Umang offers Sound Healing Teacher Training from 1 to 7 days and eight yoga and sound healing retreats. The classes have grown, but the heart has not changed: small batches, authentic instruments, and every session guided personally.

Why We Exist

Our Mission & Vision
